Default help

I have a 04 f150 xlt. You put it in 4x4 drive and it work till you get moving over 10 mph and it start clucking/grinding noises. What do you think it can be? A vac leak?

Could be vacuum. Could also be a bad iwe actuator. Get a vacuum guage/pump and follow the troubleshooting in this thread:

Hey all, got a question about 4x4 mine isn't engaging, I've got a 04 f150 FX4, we got a huge snow storm and I went to engage 4x4 and got nothing, no 4hi or 4lo can't hear anything, any common problems that I should check out, I checked the fuze and it was good, could it just be the switch, thanks !

Default 4x4 wont engage / bad electrical

I have manual lock hubs and lever shift on my '95 F150. When trying to engage 4x4 tbe light comes onbut then flashes off and im not sure if 4x4 is on.

To continue the light no longer comes on and both high and low range wont engage, or might disengage at random.

Also experiencing a pull to the right after trying to engage 4x4.

What is my problem/how do i fix it?

most of the people in this section probably don't know what manual locking hubs are jk. The 89-96 section might be better

did you check the solenoid under the hood along with both the relays under the hood?

Default Broken record.

Ok, so I have read through forums on several sites now and I know I sound like a broken record, but I have not read anything to describe my problem. LOL. I have a 2005 screw FX4. In the last 6 months I have replaced the alternator, battery IWE solenoid and both IWE actuators. I have not read anything to describe how the electrical system is tied into the vacuum system. I will be driving down the road and experience the clicking/grinding noise that everyone else hears, but at the same time my battery light comes on and the amp gauge starts climbing higher. When I pull over the clicking stops and eventually the battery light goes out and the gauge returns to normal. Any ideas would help alot. The dealership tells me that the two issues cannot be related, but they always happen at the same time. Thanks again

My 4Wd still works, but the light doesn't come on
I'm hoping that its just the light that went out, but will need to check it
I'm assuming that if the IWE was not working the 4WD would not work ?
