Default 4x4 Solenoid Causing this?

Recently I have been having problems with my 4x4 engaging. Sometimes it will sometimes it won't. This has been going on for about a month. Tonight driving down the road I noticed by lights were very dim. I pulled over and turned the engine off. My lights would not go off. It seems I have a short is bypassing the headlight switch. I had to jumped it off to restart. Could a bad 4x4 solenoid cause this? BTW, 2005 F150 King Ranch.

Sounds like an electrical problem to me if the headlites are dim.If the voltage going to the solenoid switch is not enough, sounds like it wont engage. The IWE hubs disconnect the 4wd when in 2wd by a vacuum pump.I dont think the 4x4 solenoid is the problem. When you go to 4x4,vacuum is not there causing the front wheels to go 4x4.The integrated wheel end hubs do this.
Ford really has a unique disconnect from 4x4.I think the other truck places allow the halfshafts,CV joints to rotate all the time which is something that should NOT be done.Nothing should windmill when you are in 2wd.
