Default 4x4 probs in the snow....

Gotta 2006 Ford f150 king ranch... Gotta about 6 inches of snow today and went out for a little ride in the truck, found out quick 4x4 was not working. The light is coming on, and i can also hear the clank sound when i try to put it in 4 low. My back tires are spinning like crazy but nothing in the front. i also had some help and looked under the truck at the front axle while in 4low and it was turning. What could my problem be?

Sound like the solenoid is not releasing the vacuum to lock the front hubs

I just checked the vacuum with 4x4 switched on. There is no vacuum at the iwe when 4x4 is on. That is what it suppose to right. only thing i can think it is, is there is water in the iwe and it is frozen. Keeping it from locking

same thing happened to my 08 when I was in Michigan. Light would come on but wouldn't engage. after driving for a few hours i headed over to the Ford dealership and when i got there i put the truck back into 4x4 and it engaged no problem the guy said that sometimes if it sits in super cold weather it can have a hard time engaging and just needs to be warmed up and its worked fine ever since.

When you say you checked the front axle are you talking about the half shafts? Does the front drive shaft rotate?

The front drive shaft rotates when 4WD is ON, or when 4WD is OFF or both?

What you need to check is the Half shafts from the wheel to the front diff.

Checking to see what is wrong with the IWEs is not a 5 min thing. A bad IWE on one side would cause no 4WD too seeing how the front diff is open

Rotates when 4 wheel drive is on... Doesn't when in 2wd. The shafts going to the wheels, i haven't checked those. My IWEs have been messing up when its real cold. It's almost like they get stuck and freeze.

Just checked the half shafts... They turn in 4wd and do not in 2wd. I think i have an actuator/iwe problem.
