Default 4x4 not working

i just found my 4wd is not working. i have all correct indications on the dashboard and it sounds like everything is clicking over good, but i got "no go" in the front wheels. i look around in the engine compartment and all seen was this solenoid looking thing that is behind the battery, one of the lines that comes off of it looks like it has a very little plastic tube that goes into like a plactic shroud with a another plastic tube in it? What could be the problem? I have never done anything work wise on 4x4 stuff, so im completely in the dark about this one. Any help that y'all could give me would be greatly appreciated!

I just had the same thing happen to mine. it ended up being the right front hub actuator. to check the front hub actuators jack either front wheel up off ground. if it spins with key/engine off the actuator is bad. you can only check them one at a time.

ok so me and my dad just did a vaccuum test on it and there seems to be no air leaks and the solenoid is working because its porting vaccuum when engaging and disengaging 4x4 and the half shafts turn. so could this mean its a problem in the transfer case?

did you jack up one wheel at a time and see if the axle turns when you spin the wheel? engine has to be off while performing this test.

sounds like the same issue I had with mine. I ended up fixing it.

Check out the link to my thread and see the posts with links to detailed info and also see the posts I mentioned on how I diagnosed and fixed the issue https://www.f150forum.com/f4/4x4-not...-sound-240808/

sounds like the transfer case motor.. you can try tapping on it with a mallet.. see if you can free it up..

i tried tapping on the transfer case motor, but no change. theres no distinguishable clunking noise when trying to engage 4wd hi/lo. Does that mean the transfer case motor is completely dead and that i have to replace it?
