Default 4x4 low not going back to 2wd easy.

Ok I got a 2004 ford f150 fx4 and this morning before school I had to put it in 4x4 so I put it.in 4x4 low and when I tried to put it back into 2wd it wouldnt go so I drove it to my grandpas real easy and I went up a lil hill and than tried it worked fine. I wonder what it could be. I mean I dont want to,get somewhere and get stuck and not be able to take it back out of 4x4 low. And also sometimes when I put it in 4x4 high it says low or vise versa. Any help will be appreciated.

Are you following all the steps to properly engage? I have the same problem if i don't use the brake while shifting into 4L
Shift into 4H at any speed 55 or below
To shift into 4L
1. Press brake
2. put truck into neutral
3. turn **** to 4L
4. wait for it to engage
5. put it back into drive.
make sure your using the brake and stopped while it's shifting into 4L, or it won't engage.

its the same process for taking it out of 4L, if you don't do the process correctly it won't shift out either

Sometimes it helps to put it in reverse, for a short distance, first.
