Default 4x4 issue changed iwe and actuator

Hello all this is my first post I have been reading here alot lately but have yet to say anything. I have a 05 f150 I just got recently has few issues I have went through already but 4x4 being harder then expected to get working.

Okay so as stated I did change the iwe and the actuator behind the battery.I thought I had 4x4 it seemed to work on a slippery but mantained fsr but yesterday when I went into alot of snow where the 4x4 was being pushed it clunked right out of 4x4. There is no clicking of the iwe's like there was before but a pronounced clunk when it slips out it will work in deep snow for about 500m then will kick out once stressed or turning possibly even bumps very hard to tell what is kicking it out. I seen that I have a bad ball joint on one side im not sure that could be enough to let that side slip out or if it is transfer case doing it. I would appreciate some help if anyone has any ideas i do not want to change something that doesnt need it.

yes I have tried to use my 4lo and it will do the same thing locks in but as soon as you go to give it a bit of gas there is clunking noise and the 4x4 kicks right out completely I live in bc and I need my 4x4. I dont want to wreck the iwe's cause I just paid 300 for them.

Hi mrmech,

I just got back from BC (still home for me)... I drove in two nights ago just hitting the edge of the snow (got it at Hinton).

You don't have a lift/level on it, just stock height? I doubt the solenoid is acting up but it might not hurt to pull the vacuum line off of the solenoid for a few minutes and see if it keeps it engaged. I would imagine though you'd be hearing a grinding, not a clunk if some vacuum was still passing through. I don't think it's this but might be worth checking.

Hard to say if this is it but it could be worth a look (See the attached TSB). I've seen other places where people have commented it hasn't done nice things to CV's. It might be a longshot but worth a check.

lol I'm leaning there too... just didn't want to say it hahaha. Hopefully simpler but if it was IWE I would think there'd be grinding noises or something in the front when it's popping out.
