4x4 help need!
I got a 2004 lariat 4x4 5.4l w/ the electronic shift on the fly! I just hit 15,000 miles on it this past week. I replaced the vacuum unit that locks the front hubs w/ the new designed one (about 14K) due to the threads posted on the bad design. However w/ the 15k mark came the horrible and feared grinding noise. I know it's the hubs grinding because when I which into 4 high the noise stops. It only grinds in 2 high. I have checked all the lines. I have not done any suspension mods like a lift or level kit. I don't have after market rims. Any Ideas?

so I broke down and took the truck to a ford dealership and here is what the service center said! They need $80 to look at the truck. Then the woman said that not driving the truck is just as bad as abusing the truck! Now I don't think that the metal parts in the front end wear out from sitting. Am I wrong? Then she said that more then likely the problem is that the viscosity of the oil in the front end is wrong. And that ford spec are wrong! I think changing the oil is just covering up the real problem!

ya it is dumb! I got 15k on my truck and it stays in a climate controlled garage when not in use. And I use the 4X4 50 times (if that) a year to roll 10 feet back drop/pick up the boat in the water and 10 feet forward. The truck has never be in 4 low. Complete B.S. I tell ya!
