For those of you that are wondering.... The 4HI dash light being out during operation is Fords way of letting you know that there's a problem with the hub locking system (IWE, Vacuum Lines, Soleniod). In the case of a failure, the hubs go to their default position which is in the locked in mode.

Kind of on the subject so hopefully not a hijack...Is there a easy place to tap into the indicator light system so I can add a LED on the dash. I've driven too many miles in 4x4 because the switch and lights are both hidden behind the steering wheel and shift lever. 2004 F150LX 4x4

I know this is kind of a dead thread but does anybody know the part number for the 4x4 solenoid. I have this problem but want to make sure I get the right part.

I found one at local NAPA thanks though. It fixed my problem. Everything seems to work fine now!

I know one of my lights do not come on. lo/hi. Is it bad if I don't replace it?

Does the 4x4 light show up when starting your truck? Is it the light or this part? If the light is there when starting then its most likely this part. It takes 15 minutes and cost $25 to replace this part. If you don't it could and most likely will eventually ruin your hubs. Your truck may start trying to engage and disengage 4x4 while your driving. Added wear and tear. You should most definitely replace it.
