Default 4wd not engaging after off road.

Yesterday kinda got in a tight spot due to the ground giving way next to a 100 ft drop off into a rock quarry. Anyways, the truck would have been out of the situation much sooner if my 4wd would have stayed engaged. It kept popping out of engagement anytime it was under load and eventually wouldn't stay engaged at all. Is this an air problem or something more serious? In the end a HD ratchet strap, pole hammerd in the ground, low pro jack and a high lift jack got me out.

Let me go on to say that I have replaced the IWE solenoid and recently had the pass side pulled apart to do ball joint and uppers control arm.

Has the solenoid ever been changed? It's on the passenger fender well. A weather guard would indicate the updated design, no guard would be the original. If you had a loss of vacuum, the system would engage rather than disengage.

EDIT - Since we posted the same time about the solenoid... Can you verify the solenoid is still good? Crap happens even with new parts. A vacuum pump would help troubleshoot the wheel ends and vacuum lines if the solenoid checks out.

Time to go rent a vacuum pump and troubleshoot the wheel ends and IWE system.
