Default 4wd not engaging

New guy here. Been looking at posts for 2 days now and my eyes are shot. I have a 08 f150 stx when I put it in 4hi or low I hear a clunk at the tcase but hear nothing up front and will not engage. No whinning or grinding or clunking up front nothing. Any help would be appreciated

Vacuum not releasing from your IWE ?? put into 4H and pull your vacuum lines of the IWE solenoid and see what happens.. this is located behind your battery mounted to the fire wall

Could be couple things. The t/case has an electronic clutch to engage the 4x4 . May be your switch , fuse , or bad electronic clutch . Check for voltage . The other problem could be in Solenoid that controls the vacuum to the IWE . Search out "everything you ever wanted to know about IWE " . Hope this helps.

Will try this tomorrow. May I ask what should happen when I remove the vacuum lines? What will I be looking for?

If you disconnect the vacuum lines the hubs will be locked in . The hubs are locked in when the truck is not running . When you start the truck vacuum pulls the hubs out .
