4 wheel drive trying to engage while driving

I know this thread is 1yr old but I hope someone can answer...
I have 1 week with my first F150 2005 stx 4x4 and after 5 days of driving him, I started experiencing the same issues (4x4 trying to engage while driving)... I just ordered the solenoid from tasca (almost 80dlls less than the dealer here in Tijuana Mex) and I was wondering if I can disconnect the solenoid from now until I get the new one or maybe disconnect something else. This is my daily driver and I don't want to experience this issue and suddenly brake something on the truck...
how you guys did before you get the replacement if you were experiencing the issues? Should I definitely not drive the truck until I change the part?
Since it started, it's happening almost 1-2 times a day and I only drive about 20miles per day. As soon as I hear the noise, I pull over and switch to Neutral to engage 4hi and then return to 2hi and continue driving but I'm not sure if I can drive it for the next couple of days until I get the new part.
Any information would be appreciated, I have always wanted a pick up cause I love to off road but I don't want a bad experience on my first truck...
Thanks in advance,

Four-wheel drive trouble.
Sounds like you have an issue with the vacum system that engages your 4X4 which unfortunaltly is been a common issue. Could be a leak in a line or the actuator which is on your firewall behind the battery. The loss of vacum is causing the hubs to engage in 4X4 while the wheels are rolling but the axle is stationary. The sound you hear is your hubs getting ground up.

I have a 2006 f150 and when I'm driving it it feels like it's in four-wheel drive not all the time but it comes and goes I did a check in the solenoid it said it was okay vacuum lines I don't know I did it right it probably was wrong okay then I had it jacked up heading two wheel drive spun the tire on the passenger side the axle for four wheel drive did not spin did it to the driver side spend the tire and the axle was spinning what could cause this problem ?
If you apply vacuum directly at the hub with a short piece of hose and a mity vac you should be able to test the iwe to see if it disengages.

Well, if you have the truck jacked and not running the Wheel ends will be engaged and what you described is how it should work.. now turn on the engine so it can create vacuum and try it again.
