I know you swapped coils, injectors, did the pigtail, but did you ever pull the plug back out?

Man, this one has me stumped. There has to be something wrong with the cylinder/piston.

Probably a good idea to do a leakdown/compression test. Does your oil smell like it has gas in it?

The only time there is potential for stuff to end up in the cylinder is when a plug is removed. OP -Did you keep the extracted plugs? Any have missing pieces ( and were they all extracted without breakage, or was a Lisle tool used? )

What brand plugs did you put in it? If Autolite then you found the problem, yank those fishing sinkers out and put Motorcraft plugs in.

I would have to disagree here. I have Autolites in mine and my dad and brother and their 10 company f150 and 250s all have them. They are made on the same line by the same people to the same specifications as the MCs. Only difference is one gets an AL stamp and one gets a MC Stamp.

As a professional auto tech I have seen Autolite failures by the hundred. I wouldn't use them in a lawnmower.

They are not the same plug by any stretch of imagination.

All original plugs came out like butter. I put them in less than 30k ago and used the advised steps with nickel anti sieze.

On the way home from work tonight (well it's actually morning now down here in tx), I think the truck is down to maybe 5 cylinders or less. I literally almost called someone to come get me. I am still only seeing a code for cylinder #4, but this is something new again. I can barely make the truck go over 40 mph. It surges hard and at moments acts like it want to run normal. Well as normal as can be considering what I know is not happening.

I almost wish I knew I screwed something up with the plug/coil change. This is the 4th f150 I have owned since model year 2000. I have always done my own maintenance on them. I feel as though I know the 5.4 engine both 2 and 3 valve pretty good. My prior job required me to drive lots of miles. One of my trucks I had for 289k in my possession. I have always followed instructions to the T as far as doing any work on them. For the engines if it's not motorcraft it is not a part of my routine except sythetic fluids (I have not made any oil yet as I live close to work).

I have my bore scope now and will do that on after I get some shut eye. I really wish I would have just said oh well to my slight miss at 50-55 in OD. This has been a very testing challenge to find. If the borescope or comp test finds something bad I do not know what I will do. I did have to put a new motor in my 2000 model and I remember the cost and work. Not something that is doable now.

Thank you everyone who has oferred ideas. I will post back tomorrow when I know more.....hopefully "good" news.

Default Problem solved!!!!!!!

Well the problem has been cured and truck runs great now!

Turns out I had 3 plugs that had broken when I installed them. Not sure how it happened as I torqued them to spec. I initially pulled the #4 first thing and as soon as I pulled it I could move the porcelain. Pulled the rest and found 2 more like it.

My dad gave me a ride to a different dealer to buy new plugs and actually treated me to a whole new set of 8 to be safe. I returned the favor and bought him lunch.

Can't say how happy I am right now. I was literally having nightmares of how much it was going to cost me.

Big thank you to everyone who offered help! There is a great group of guys on this forum.
