4 hi in, 4hi out?
Okay guys and gals, my son comes home with his 2006 F150 4x4 XLT. He takes his younger brother down a mud farm lane to climb some trees. When he gets back, says it still feels like its in 4wd, and the 4wd HI light will not illuminate when in 4HI., It will flicker once when engaging 4x4, but will not stay on. The truck however is actually engaged in 4 hi. When engaging 4lo, everything works the way it should.
So my question is, does anyone know what would cause the 4x4hi light to do its nasty little trick?
As far as the "feel like its still in 4wd", all that was was the right side vac hoses came off the hub.
I had thought of pulling the transfer case shift motor to see if it was crudded up or something, but the looks from the outside, its pretty clean.
Thanks for any help and guidance.

Being that the Vacuum line came off while in the mud...I would blow out the vacuum lines and replace the IWE solenoid ...

were talking about what you said about feeling like its still in 4WD. If the line or lines are clogged it will not let the system vent or produce vacuum as required..thus feeling like its still in 4WD or will not engage 4WD.

4 in 4 out?
The feeling like in 4wd problem was solved when I put the vac. hose back on the hub.
Its the dash light not staying illuminated while in 4 hi that I'm trying to figure out.

then i would swap out your IWE solenoid located on the firewall behind the battery.. the new style have a rain shield molded to the top of them to help keep water out.

4 hi in 4 hi out"
Well I may try that since everywhere I see online says that causes problems. Although I am not sure how that would be able to differentiate between the 4hi and 4lo light .
I just want to know why the 4hi light will not stay illuminated when in 4hi.
The 4lo light stays on when in 4 lo.
