Default 4.6L air filter

I'm looking to replace my air filter on my 06 4.6L. I was wondering if it's worth doing a K&N or just going with a regular filter. Oh and I also did the gotts mod if that helps any.

I would say stay with what you're running now. When I bought mine (4.6) it already had a K&N, but I wouldn't have spent the money for it myself. I did add/do the gotts mod though.

15 +/- for paper and 45+/- for K&N, after 3 fliter changes it pays for itself. In my case I bought the K&n at 17,000 miles and now have over 90,000, so from a cost perspective it has paid for itself. IMO it is worth it, just go light on the re-oil so you dont get a oily/dirty MAF or TB.

Ok thanks! I just looked them up and there $60! Wow didn't know they were that much! I was thinking like $45ish but like you said they last longer.

I ran K&N in the past, but not on this truck. I have the Gotts mod and AEM dryflow (lucked out and got a new one on ebay for $7 shipped in original box, still shrink wrapped). I love this set-up.

Wow, you are right, the cheapest I could find was 56 bucks sorry about that. I remembered how much it cost when I bought mine several years back wich was 45+tax at autozone. Everythings going up but the pay. I bought a 1.98 tool a few years back, my father in-law wanted one also, so I picked him one up and the cheapest I could find it was $12. Thats only a 1000% markup.

Wow that's crazy! Yea seems like everything is going up anymore. I might just run a regular filter. I can't see paying $60 for a K&N if it was around $45 I would prob consider.

I have an AEM Dryflow filter in mine. I like it, and later on got the Airaid jr. intake tube.
Many say oiled filters = bad. Can clog MAF or something, I don't know from experience but don't want to find out. Just a controversial issue.

I just put a k&n drop in filter in my 4.6 last week. I can definitely hear a difference that's for sure. Cleaned MAF and throttle body while doing it. I ran one on my old Mazda 3 some years back and it did cause idle issues at cold start, but a quick cleaning of the MAF and TB cured it right up. However back then I did not understand the issue of over-oiling and looking back I for sure did over oil it which caused the issues. Now that I know it doesn't seem like a huge deal to me when done right!
