I don't want a 5.4. Just looking to get a bit more out of my 4.6. Any info regarding how to go about the mods I listed would be helpful

Ford, much?
The 4.6 in my truck is a slug compared to the 4.6 in my Mustang GT. The main difference is the cams. Sure there are dynamic differences in the weight and gearing, but the two engines are night and day in how responsive they are. The 4.6 in the GT is instant power with lots of torque and the truck is of course barely there at all with some slight midrange power. The truck is an '06 and the car is a 98, both nearing 150k miles. I think between engine management and hot cams the truck would wake up and start doing it's thing. They are both modular 4.6 engines and should perform a lot more like each other than they do.

when it comes to modding the 4.6 in trucks there is not that many options other than the basic tuner, headers, intake etc etc,, if you really want to get out there, you might want to check out an sts turbo kit

I looked into this.
Cams and heads, long-tube headers. You'll move the power band way up, it'll definitely need a custom tune, and will cost you around 6-10 grand overall (cams are about 1100, heads 2-4k, then labor, tuning, dyno time) and unless you've already got a beefy transmission, you can add that to the cost too, or risk blowing it up.
