Default 4.6 Air Intake

I've been looking for a used K&N air intake system on craigslist for the past couple weeks. I have had no luck finding one for the 04-08 generation or one specific for the 4.6. Are these air intake systems interchangeable between years and engines? Considering the air box is the same on a 4.6 and a 5.4 could i throw a 5.4 intake on my 4.6. Or a 2009 intake on my 2007? If anyone is trying to sell their intake around north Florida let me know=]. thanks

I would personally save the $$ and keep your stock setup - the stock set up is placed perfectly and draws in a good amount of air.

Maybe just swap out the filter.

The stock system is a cold air intake. Aftermarket air intakes on these trucks are a waste of money. Put your money else where.

Yep, your better off with stock. Aftermarket draws hot air from the engine compartment. Total waste of money.

This ^^^

Please save your money and use it on something that will actually improve the truck.

I hear people say this all the time but show me proof that aftermarket intakes raise intake air temp. Mine is usually 2 degrees cooler than ambient temperature (according to my programmer). Now I will admit their claims of 20-50 hp gains are total BS I have an AEM BRUTE FORCE and they claim 7 hp gain on the 4.6 sounds legit that coupled with my custom tune it is probably giving me a 7 hp gain for the intake.

Common sense would tell you if you draw warm air from near the radiator inside a closed hot engine compartment as opposed to cooler ambient air from the fender or in front of the radiator that you are not going to be making more power from the latter. The tune is what wakes the mod motors up. Only "sealed" intakes that draw air from a source outside the engine bay are worth it especially if they have a larger MAF tube when you can tune for it. Generally speaking if the intake says no tune required you can expect no increases in performance.

Your points of "sounds legit" "probably gettin a 7 hp gain" proves nothing. Like mentioned above, it's common knowledge, the only valid point you make is that the tune provides a gain.

While I agree with both above statements how is the intake drawing hotter air when my programmer which reads IAT always reads a few degrees cooler than ambient temperature? I'm not saying that an intake alone will help in fact it may make it worse but couple it with a good tune I feel you can make power from it. I'm not looking to start an argument and am by no means an expert with these engines. I'm just stating what I see on my truck
