Ok, I have a friend that just bought a 2006 f-150 today and as weird as it sounds does not know if it is a 4.6L or a 5.4L. How can he tell?

check the emissions label under the hood. It will sy 4.6 or 5.4.

Most trucks with the 5.4 with also say 5.4 Triton on the fender emblems under F150. 4.6 trucks just say Triton v8.

Try this, just add the vin to the end shown here:

I used that and got the window sticker on my truck and that should list everything that came with the truck

4.6 has W as the 8th digit VIN code
5.4 has 5 or V as 8th digit VIN code

Just look on the F150 emblem like mentioned above.
