In terms of mods that help function more than form... you'll probably get the most benefit from a tuner purely because of the shift differences in the transmission.
You can always look into a better exhaust setup, CAI, I don't know what other vehicle shares that same engine but I'm assuming that someone made an underdrive pulley kit.
Have you checked to see if you have an electric fan, or a clutch fan, or both? If you have a clutched fan on the front of your engine you could look into an electric fan kit which will save you a fair bit of power. Also consider an electric water pump if there is one available for your engine.
