just wanted to check with some 4.2 owners and see what kinda mpg your getting. i just picked one up but the dealership called and said they could put me in a titan for the same price. i have not had it long enough to see what im getting... iv read that the 4.2 gets worse mpg then the v8s...
My 08 4.2L with 5-speed manual gets 17-18 consistently with mixed driving, just over 18 all highway; that's with 3.55 gears and 32" tires. When it was stock with 3.31 gears and 30" tires, I got close to 20 mpg on average.
If you trade for said Titan, aren't you gonna end up paying tax, license, dealer fees, etc all over again? It'd have to be a smoking good deal on a perfect Titan for me to accept being double screwed by the dealer and government.
Edit: Now, that's not to say I would trade for a Titan, I wouldn't, just saying there'd have to be a REALLY good reason for me to make the trade.

no i shouldn't. iv only had the f150 for a week and im not too sure how they are going to work it out. but the titan will fit me better for work...

that titan wont be near the truck youve got now even if it has the biggest v8 nissan makes, i would stick with the v6 and the ford, from what ive read and rode in the 4.2 is a great little motor
Well, unless the F-150 can be returned with 100% of fees and taxes rescinded, your gonna be paying somewhere. Think about this from the dealer's perspective: they've sold you a truck, gotten all the fees and profit for it out of you, and you've now had it for a week. Now, they've got another truck, a Titan that's more desirable to many because it's a V8 and likely has more amenities. So, what is the dealer's incentive to put you in another truck, a truck that should be easier to sell, for the exact same price as the truck you've already purchased, if they're not gonna make any money on the deal? Something doesn't sound right to me. Dealers are in the business to make money, not to be your friend and give you something better for free. Be weary.

You read wrong. Do a search on "gas mileage" here on this forum, then read the posts. You'll see the V8's (especially the 5.4's) get 13 to 17 (maybe 18) at best.
My 4.2 V6 is not the "power dog" of the V8's, but I get 18 to 21, with a freer flowing exhaust and a semi CAI (K&N).
If you want more power, then yes, go the Titan route; but it won't do better in mileage than the 4.2 V6.

just a lil update, i did get the titan. turned out they never sent the paper work for the f150 through. i ended up getting the titan for $13,5!!! so its saving me $25 a month over the f150!
