No need to buy the Dorman housing if yours isn't cracked. Just use rtv silicone and it'll probably hold better than any of the foam gaskets.

Yep, looks like 3 options for folks: Buy a new LED, use silicone or RTV, buy the gasket.

Me, I just left it as is and used clear silicone for now.

Why would anyone silicone or rtv a plastic light assembly to metal? Even if you used a quality brand LED, the light still has the potential to crack and leak.

I will answer for myself:

1.) because it works;
2.) leak did not happen because of a cracked lens.

Just my scenario.

I agree. It works well. No leaks in 2 years. I didn't want to deal with an other foam gasket leaking. I also wanted to keep a stock look.

I don't see any issue with using silicone on plastic and metal.

I haven't heard of the housings cracking and leaking. It seems to mainly be the faulty gasket.

I removed my stock light because 3 large cracks, I think it was due to hail. The gasket was fine. I saw water in the light so went with a $43 light that matched the red on the truck. I guess as long as it works (replacement vs silicone vs new gasket) as long as it doesnt leak, any method is acceptable

Exactly. I agree with you. I think most are due to the failing gasket and I just wanted to give another cheaper option that works great. At least for me it has.

My original one only cracked because I broke it. Ha.
