Default 35" spare safety

Hello all,

I currently have a 35x12.50x17 spare underneath my bed (where the old factory spare was). My truck is a daily vehicle for me, so I drive it almost everyday, some days I drive on some bumpy highways going at least 60-70 mph. My question is...how strong or durable is the wire/rope that is holding the spare up??? Because the last thing I want is that 35" spare dropping down in front of the car behind me!

How much do you think the tire and rim weighs and what is the weight limit on the wire/rope for the spare?

FYI- I also have a 6" lift on the truck.

Thank you in advance.

Throw the wheel on your normal weight scale you use to weigh yourself. It will work perfect. Now I think that cable will hold quite a bit before it snaps. Do you think a 35 will fit in that spot though?

I should really do this.. I'm lugging around the factory spare while riding 3512.5 r20's, if I ever need it my truck is going too look like a table with a 1 short leg and drive like crap..

I'm sure the cable will support the load of 3-500 lbs easily..
Does your 35" tire stick down under the bumper/hitch noticeably? Any pics?

I have a 6" lift with 35/12.50/17s but never thought about "what if I need to change one of the tires due to something. Factory jack def would not be high enough. Anyone have any solutions or ideas maybe have something they use ?

The 35" spare is barely noticeable, I mean it's larger than the average spare so you see it, but nothing too noticeable. I also have duel exhaust so it fits perfectly between the pipes. Sorry I don't have any pics.

So do you guys think I'll be alright with the 35" under there or should I just throw it in the bed and lock it up with a chain and lock to keep the thieves away? Any help would be great! Thanks!

I think you will be fine, just keep it up there tight and not bouncing around. I live in new england we get tons of salt in the winter so 1-2 times a year i drop the spare, inspect, wash out the area and keep the cable greased. Ford might even use the same carrier for the super duty or Raptors. Oh and dont forget they are tested to survive accidents. A bumpy road transmits a few less G forces.
