I looked at 315/70/17 and they are typically a half in smaller in diameter than 35's but it depends on the manufacturer. Watch your sidewall class as well, this also depends on the tire manufacturer. My 35's are Generals which are D rated (8ply), but Nitto's in the same size are E rated (10 ply). While the E rated tires will be tougher they ride much harsher.
