Default 300,000 miles now

My 2006 5.4 FX4 crew cab just rolled 300,000 miles on the last long trip yesterday. Runs perfect. 5-30 synthetic, champion 1 piece plugs and even got the AC to perform well with a new compressor, orifice tube, and heavy duty after market non Ford fan clutch. I have pushed snow with this truck for the last 10 years. Original engine, no oil use at all, 2nd transmission, 1st lasted 250,000 miles. Never skimped on maintenance but wished I had rustproofed the cab corners when I bought it. Original transfer case but 4 rear end rebuilds. Truck still looks new inside and out other than beginnings of cab corner rust. Front diff never opened, did heater core and evaporator last year. I have a new '15 but I still prefer to drive my '06. Just drive Chicago, Tuscaloosa, Chattanooga, Chicago trip. Not hesitant to take this truck on any long trips. I bought this truck new and special ordered it from the factory.

Thats AWESOME! So many horror stories of the 5.4 being crap! I am half-way there in comparison to your miles. Proof if you take care of a vehicle, it will take care of you. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome! My 06 5.4 is at 202,000. I also run 5w30 synthetic and nothing has been touched other than normal maintenance. Still runs like new

That's great to hear. I've seen many 2 valve 5.4s with over 200k but very few 3 valves. My brother in law has a 2 valve that's been neglected and it's about to roll 200k with minimal issues. It's nice to hear these stories. Thanks for sharing.

I've got an 07 5.4 3v with 288k on it.. had no problems until the transmission last week.. all she's got is 1st and 2nd now.. so after a rebuild, hopefully we'll see another few hundred thousand miles

The 5.4 3V I had in my '04 Lariat ran smoother then the 5.0 in my '11 and the 3.5 in my '13. I don't know why these engines have gotten such a bad rap. I had my '04 for 7 yrs and 100K miles on the original plugs and it was running great when I sold it.

Nice!!!
My old 5.4 crapped out at 135,000 miles due to the frame failing due to excessive rust. The engine and tranny were still great and the truck looked great until you crawled underneath.
Many 5.4's just get a bad rap because there were some design issues that were possible failure points. Many (not all) of these issues were aggravated via poor choices of oils, filters and maintenance.
