Default 3" leveling kit question

Hey guys,
I'm brand new to the forum and brand new to F-150s. I bought a 2007 XLT 4x4 with 87k miles. First Ford I ever bought.
A buddy of mine has a 3" leveling kit for it so I'm wondering if anyone has done one before and what kinds of issues (if any) it's caused.
Also, do I have to add additional height to the rear? I do not want the "squat" look. I'm putting 35s on it.
Thanks!

In most peoples opinion on here 3" is to big. 2.5" would level the truck off and would cause less problems with upper control arm rubbing and premature ball joint failure. I had a 2.5" hell bent steel kit on my truck (2004 FX4) and it still rubbed the upper control arm but after a coil spring broke (unrelated to the leveling kit) I decided to upgrade to Rancho Quicklift which also level the truck but without the use of the hell bent steel spacer. The Rancho kit is the entire strut assembly and eliminates any upper control arm rub that happens. Ranchos are just over $300 for a pair so if your just looking for a cheap solution I would get a 2.5" hell bent steel spacer.

In theory, on a 3" spacer, once the weight of the truck is let back down it should settle around 2.5" correct? The only reason Im going to try this kit is because my friend has one in his garage so I dont have to buy one immediately. Im going to give it a try and see what happens. If I don't like it I'll switch it out for the Rancho kit. Thank you for your input!

No harm in trying if its free I would just keep an eye out for rubbing on the coils. My 2.5" kit lifted the front exactly 2.5". The spacer itself was actually not 2.5" thick, all the kits measure under the actual lift size but once installed with the weight of the truck on them and the way the steering geometry is it gives you 2.5" or 3" in your case. After installing a leveling kit you will also need an alignment.

That's what I was going for. I'm not big on after market wheels and all that. I like em still tucked in the fenders. Also the taller skinnier tires do better off-road in my opinion. Only 11.5 wide instead of 12.5, makes the difference in rubbing and not.
