Default 3 inch exhaust

So I'm wanting to do a custom 3 inch exhaust from the y pipe back. I know the stock exhaust pipe is 2.5 inch. I was thinking the 3 inch exhaust will help it breathe better. Is this a good idea? Will it hurt or better my fuel economy?

Just got my 3in installed today and man does it sound good. I'm no help for if it adds horsepower or fuel economy tho.

The guy at the muffler shop said it will benefit me when I'm towing. I don't now if it true. Also I was wondering it straight piping is a good idea or bad idea? I don't think I'll straight pipe just wanting to get opinions. Is your exhaust 3 in from the y pipe back?

I can honestly say when i had dual straight pipes i had more pep off the line and i know i got better fuel mileage. I was just putting by a cop and he pulled me over for exhaust so i had two tube mufflers installed my truck still sounds good but id love to get them straight piped here soon.

I wouldn't expect to see much in the form of hp and mileage gains, maybe a little, but not much. It would take a while to get the money back that the exhaust will cost. It does sound good. Maybe helps a little with towing. I tow a 6000 pound camper. Here's a thread with sound from my flowmaster and dynomax exhaust.

Thanks, I'm not expecting to get increase in fuel economy I was just curious if it would hurt it. A friend told me that straight piping hurts your fuel economy cuz there is no pack pressure and that is made me curious

Read the link and tell your friends. 3" single is fine for these trucks. Don't expect big gains but is the best system for the normal powerband range.

i installed a 4 inch on my ecoboost. big time pep and slight improvement on fuel. When you step on the gas it really goes now. I would certainly do it again.
