3.73 gears OK with 35" tires?
I searched, but could not find an answer. Are the 3.73 gears a good combo with a 34" to 35" tall tire? I never tow anything, and I live in flat as a pancake South Florida.

I have run 35s with 3.73s and no issues at all. In fact, my recent Plat had a 4-inch lift, heavy 34.5 inch Nitto Trails, and 3.55 gears, and ran great! You'll be fine with 3.73s. My current FX4 has 3.73s and 33.5 inch tall tires and will be upgrading to 35s in couple of days. I will be keeping the 3.73s.

4.56 gears will be ideal. Many people will tell you they have had 35s for x number of years with no problems but 99% of the time these same people would regear if they could or were willing to spend the money on a upgrade that no one will appreciate. The question is do you drive in the city or highway for most of your driving. if you regear your highway mpg wll go down but your city mpg will go up.

I don't know about that... maybe you're right but I'm running 70# 33x12.50r20 tires now and am looking to upgrade to dick cepek 35x12.50r20 (which are 71#s). I have no plans to change my 3.73s not because I can't afford it but because I spin my 33s in 2nd gear at WOT and run 0-60 in 5.6 (in the heat)... its not a dog by any means, I would gain nothing by upgrading gear...I have traction issues now! And the Cepek's are only 1lb heavier. I could see where 4.10s may be desirable but 4.56 seems to be overkill (depending on how much power you're putting down too I guess)

You have a 2012 truck with the 6spd so you have a nice power boost from the 04-08 trucks, we're stuck with the 4spd. I would do the gears but I may be fortunate enough to get a newer truck within the next 6months. If I do keep my truck, I will go to 4.56. Drove a truck with the 4.56 and 35 tire combo and compared to my 3.73 and 35s, it's a nice upgrade in torque.

ok i have an '05 f150 with a 4.6L and 3.55 gears and i have 305/70r17 nitto grapplers on now. i use this truck as a daily driver i travel over 100 miles a day to go to work and back so gas mileage is key.... but want to have power to... looking for a happy medium... i have been wanting to regear but i'm not sure what i need to regear too... i have looked on charts online and they show that 4.10s would be good for gas mileage and torque but i have been told by friends that 3.73s would be more then enough.. does anyone have any advice

something to think about... while many many people report no power issues and they run them x number of years with no issues, it will put more stress on your trans. I have 33.5's on mine and it's a significant power drop when towing. guess you have to do what ever you feel comfortable with
