From 3:55 to 3:73, my experience

Not sure about the brand of gears. I'll find out.
I've had this mechanic perform substantial mods to my Jeeps in the past and I have NEVER had a problem. I'm talking lifts, lockers, re-gears, etc. He is well-known in the Houston-Galveston-Pearland-Alvin area and he stands behind his work.

lower gear ratios are usually cheaper to buy, did you get new gears in the package? or did you get new take outs? (conversion companies and what not sell there stock gears for quite cheap, since 3.73's were the factory tow gears)

yeah i'm with atom on this one. i don't think i would have spent the money on such little gains, i would have at least gone to 4.10's. oh and i'm fairly sure that the factory warranty went out the window with the gear swap, at least on the rear end and transmission, unless it was a dealership or something that did the swap. even though 3.73 was a factory option, they didn't do the work on it so they are more than likely not going to cover it if something went wrong, not saying it will though.

if his bigger tires kept his truck shifting back and forth constantly and only needed a tad more torque (gear swap) to keep the truck at a constant rpm, his truck would run more efficient, hence the increase in mileage. depending on the setup, stepping up to a taller gear, can yield more power and increase mileage.
