I have a 2005 5.4, 4x4, LSD 3.73. I am running the factory 255's right now and it's time for new tires. I use my 4x4 enough that I think I would benefit from the bigger tire. The 265 is pretty much stock but I can get a really good deal on some 285's Toyo's from a local guy. My question is would the 285's cause problems like rubbing or bad MPG's? I'm running stock rims.

You should be fine with the 285/70R17s. My 275/70R18s were a little taller and fit fine with no rubbing stock. You may see a minimal decrease in MPGs, remember, you'll need to adjust for speedo inaccuracy, so you'll need to use a tuner/dealer to recalibrate, or just factor that your speedo and odometer is going to be around 10% off (going from 255/65 to 285/70)

I have a 2006 5.4 liter xlt screw 2x4 with 2.5" leveling kit. I want to replace my factory, "255/65 R17" tires that are worn out with a different look on existing rims.. Something more aggressive looking with good mpg and style. Please HELP!!!

My advice is get beiger light wheels 18's or 20's to compensate for the heaver beiger wheels. I hade 285/60-18's and changed to 325/60-18's on new lighter wheels and cant see much deference in power or MPG.

I'm running 285/70/17's on my 4.6 STX w/ HBS 2.5" level and have no issues with rubbing or accelerating. Your 5.4 should be fine. I lost literally like 1-2 MPG by leveling it and adding the tires. IMHO tho if you're worried about MPG then you're driving the wrong vehicle in the first place.

i have 04 4.6 XLT supercab, i ve to replace the tires, i can't pass the inspection. i have 255/70/17's if i go up to 285/70/17's would be a problem? without leveling kit?
