What the heck is the opening under the cigarette lighter? On my model it seems to have no use whatsoever.

Yeah my 2006 has the same thing, never have been able to figure out why it's there.

Yeah I will go get my camera but I know that camera can't do justice to the apparent stupidity of this feature which may just do nothing more than provide some relief from a large flat unused surface when there is no ashtray. I'd rather have an ashtray than a stupid empty slot but I'm hoping for some other thoughts on this..

In my 04 it is an ashtray. I use it to hold my bus cards

Ash tray on mine too. I am trying to figure out a clean way to put a scan gauge II in there.
