2008 ford f150 U-joints?!
My 2008 F-150 has 24,000miles on it and I kept hearing this annoying whining sound that would get faster the faster I drive. It would come and go under load, not under load, etc. I found the source of the noise to be the front U-joint on the rear driveshaft. I want to put a good Spicer U-joint in there, but I can't find a cross reference to what U-joint I need. The cups are @1 1/8" and the cross is about 3 3/4". Any ideas? Parts places I've tried are stumped.

I used chassis ears. I was thinking wheel bearing, too. The chassis ear clip I put on the tailshaft housing at the back of the transfer case gave me the exact noise I was lookin' for.

My F-150 SCAB is a 2008 model, and I have 22k miles and change. I noticed when there is a lag (like coasting, and get on the gas) and when I get on the accelerator there is a "clunk" in the drive train "somewhere". In my past experience (1985 F-150) this "clunk" is a U-Joint. I feel like it is a u-joint out..... haven't checked yet for sure.... but I was thinking that I should address what I think is the problem and then also sand off the rust on the rear drive shaft and prime it at least... that rust color sure bugs me alot.
I also think at 22k+ miles... I should address the brake pads too.... and also get my brakes bled and re-filled. I see grooves on the rotors when looking thru the wheels (chrome capped steel wheels).... especially the fronts. I want to keep from running into problems from pre-mature brake wear.... Meaning, changing the pads before metal on metal is the case.
Love my truck, just want to stay on top of things, whatever the issues are.

The chassis ears are made by a company called Steelman. They work pretty well. They'll get you into the ball park anyway.
I changed that u-joint behind the transfercase, noise is still there. crap. Noise is still the loudest around the transfer case. Ever have an ABS sensor to close to the tone ring, kind a sounds like that.

It wasn't the u-joints or the transfer case for that matter either. Brown-Daub Ford has my trans out and apart in about a million pieces, lookin' for a failed bearing.
