I've see the posts about these before but i can't find them now....that being said....

I have a 4.6 auto trans f150. my 4wd engages just fine but the 4wd light is stuck on since my transmission was replaced. This is a switch problem right?

Is the system engaged still when you select 2WD ??

No, it can go in and out of 2wd, 4wd lo and 4wd hi without issues. I found the part:
4wd indicator switch
as simple as that is. Now just have to get up under my truck and see if its a stuck ball/spring or if i need to replace the part. Found them on ebay for $18 tho, so either way, i should be ok

are you talking about the switch on the transfer case ?

Ok. So today it was nice outside and I was able to spend some time playing with this.
Check the sensor. Seems all is fine mechanically. The ball pushes in with good snap back (spring loaded) and the connections seem fine.
When i got back into the truck and check my 4wd i noticed that now the light isn't stuck on 4wd hi....now its as follows

should be----what it displays
2wd hi---4wd hi
4wd hi---4wd hi
neutral---4wd hi
4wd lo---4wd lo

so it seems the switch is only reading 4w lo and just defaulting to 4w hi for everything else. Anyone able to help before i buy a new switch?

Seems like that is your problem due to the fact after you were exercising the switch ...the dash lights changed..

Ok, gonna order a switch then. Will keep this post updated.
