Default 2008 5.4 Factory Ford Crate Motor

In 2014 I bought a 2008 4x4 5.4 Lariat Supercrew with 56k miles on it. Within a couple of months, I experienced the infamous ticking of the cam phasers. I took it back to carmax, who in-turn, sent it to a local Ford Dealer (CM said they didn't want their mechanics to get that involved with the motor).

Long story short, they ended up finding the cylinders were scorched and trashed the motor. Ford put in a brand new crate motor at Carmax's expense. I'm curious, does anyone know if Ford fixed the cam phaser issue on their newer crate motors?

Regardless of whether its fixed on paper, I'd love to hear back to hear if you ever have any issues in the future. Hopefully it'll go as far as the 5.4s should

Kudos to Carmax for stepping up and doing the right thing.

Hey, 300k is still 300k. I'd say that's great life from a stock drive train. 600k is stretching it for ANY motor minus diesel's lol
