2008 5.4 engine troubles
Hello all,
First I should say hello (I know it belongs in the introductions) as I just joined the site. On Monday I purchased an 08 5.4 XLT with 106k miles. It is my first truck since my first car of a 93 Ranger when I was 16, so I am pretty excited.
I will admit that I have not done a ton of research yet, but my truck is currently in the shop (day after I bought it) and I was looking to get some opinions. The short story is that after about 30 min of driving, once I slow down to idle speed (or put it in reverse) the engine starts to idle very roughly and sounds like it may be misfiring? I am not a huge car guy, but it seems like something is either out of balance (which seems unlikely as it only happens when I have been driving for a while and it goes away at higher speeds) or there is something happening with the timing of fire.
Lastly, if I turn off the engine and start it up again, it goes away for a while.
When it is at its worst, it is decently violent and shakes the entire truck while stopped and idling.
Thoughts? Thank you for the information in advance.
