You can do the Gotts mod for cheap, lot of threads on how to do this. Programmer will get you a little, you can watch your performance and use economy settings. I went to Level 1 with my EVO and hit over 20 MPG last weekend on a trip, conditions were good, no wind which is the culprit in this part of the country. I would never have thought a V-8 4X4 full size pickup could get that kind of mileage.

What do I need a exactly for the gotta mod. I don't know exactly where the power is coming from. The tube you pull off is a hollow tube. How can you get more power by just having a different tube? And what tuner do you have?

The gotts mod you're replacing the section from the accordion section of the intake into the fender connection with 3" pvc pipe. You're getting more air flow into the intake. You need to disconnect the battery when doing this to "reset" the MAF sensor.
A tuner wont get you much mpg improvement (maybe 1 mpg more) but will wake the truck up driving around town.

I have the Edge Evolution and like the other poster said you pull more air, larger diameter when you change out the OEM tube. Just do a search on this forum and you will get a lot of info on the Gotts, including parts list to do it depending on your engine.

do I replace the acordian section and the piece going into the fender? and if the tuner helps ill get one for pulling the car trailer. is it practical for that?

I put on the edge cs tuner, and just the k&n filter element.. I put in the towing/performance stage two program then I tweeked some of the shift point settings and leaned it out just a minimal amount, I went from getting 13.5 c/ 15 highway to 16.5 city and 19 highway.

The big thing to check with the tuner is that your rear diff is actually matching what the PCM thinks it is. The factory program says the rear axle was 3.73 when infact I have a 3.55. I also run the 2 inch level kit with 33 inch tires and I set the tire size to properally match as well, which gets my odometer back to being accurate. My best fuel on the highway was an average of 20.5 coming home from Tennessee. The tuner was the best upgrade I ever bought, and I never even put it on level 3 yet..

All these numbers are calculated by the fuel the miles that I drive divided by the fuel I put in. The odometer is very accurate in reference to the actual milage I travel. As I have compared them to gps and google map distances numerous times.

I have a 05 Supercab 5.4 4wd with 33in open country tires and the rancho quick lifts, k@n filter element, new plugs at 100k new fuel injectors at 109 k, and new vct solinoids at 110k.
I currently have 126 on the truck.

that helps a ton! did you ever have to change the exhaust manifold studs??? im starting that project tomorrow and wondering if theres any other way then welding a nut to the stud then backing it out. and I might start by trying the gots mod today. by the way, heres the truck.

I'll try looking them up tonight after work, and I'll throw my settings up here. I think a lot of it come down to just driving style. I live in mass and a lot of the driving ends up being around 42-43 mph, so I have my tranny locked in od. Which probably benifits my city numbers, then for highway I leaned it out a little bit which helps for the higher rpm driving..

I got the edge CTS and that helped my MPG a bit as well. When I am running the premium tune I went from 13.5MPG in town to 16.5. This is no joke. Also from 14.5 Highway to 18-20 depending on wind, i live in KS, and how fast I drive. Yes you get much better MPG at 65 then 80

I lowered my torque converter lockup in 4th down so I get it locked up at 40-41MPH. Most of my driving is 45 MPH. Before it would lock and unlock quite often. Also I have it holding in 2nd and 3rd gear longer. It is now where it should be in my opinion. As before it felt like it was lugging along, then to finally get it to get up and go it would be about 3/4 throttle. Now its responsive and quick and much more drivable.

Honestly I wasn't expecting any increase in MPG. The power increase is just fantastic and the overall drive-ability is beyond improved. I got mine used on ebay for a great price.
