Default 2007 F-150 grinding in 4H

I was driving home from work on Friday and when I shifted to 4H I heard(and felt) a grinding noise. It felt like the 4H never fully engaged. I immediately shifted back to 2H and the noise didn't go away. I slowed down almost to a stop then I stepped on the accelerator hard and it felt like the 4H finally disengaged. The noise went away after that. I pulled over and put the truck in neutral then shifted to 4L and it engaged no problem, drove away with no noise and disengaged no problem when I stopped again. Everything I've read points me in the direction of the IWE. Is that a safe bet?

Yup your right but check the actuator thing that's inside the hood behind the batterie if it dosent have a hood over the piece it self water can seal in and damage and you won't get full vacume

Vacuum Disengages Hubs Hubs are engaged with no Vacuum (Truck off ) this exercises them every time you start up but one could have not fully engaged. I assume the grind occurred while you were moving. If problem persists you may want to look at the condition if the solenoids and teeth at the wheel to see of the grease is thickened or the teeth are damaged.

Was it below freezing? If so (almost everywhere was, even here in Alabama), you could have some moisture in the vacuum lines and/or the actuators themselves that froze and gave the actuators that little hiccup.

Sorry about that I was in school and typing quickly on my iPad and my spell check is off due to incorrect words when I type things for school and it's just really annoying
