2007 F-150 Console/Gear shift selector wont go into park...Help Please!
Long time member, 1st forum post. My 2007 Lariat with center console gear shifter won't go into park from reverse. Reverse is as high as it goes, and I must note the button to push does not pop out so I can press and shift into park. All gears on shifter display are in-line. Shifting on neutral, reverse, and Drive-1-2 gears are fine. That was my first thought. Reverse feels like that's as far as the selector should go. Any help would be appreciated.

update: So as I recall when pushing on the park brake and then shifting out of PART into reverse or a gear I could hear a click down from below the shifter in the console. I assume this is the safety for the brake to be applied when moving out of park. But now when applying the brake it does not click down below, which I believe is why it wont go into park. Does anyone know what this is, if it's a solenoid, or sensor????

UPDATE: I had a chance this weekend to get into the center console and pull out the gear shift selector. And the problem was the safety selector module. (that mounts to the side of the gear shift assy with 2 bolts.) Basically overrode the switch by putting some hard form plastic inside the switch to hold down the manual override button.

It was Friday night, and after both speaking to a local transmission shop and the ford dealership they both told me to just bring it in. They said there was no way it could be the switch. It would either have to be on top of the transmission or inside the tranny. I will be replacing the switch today. The cruise control and brake lights both worked before even though "park" was not.
