Default 2007 5.4l v8 help

I hear a ticking sound when i apply the gas. Seems to be coming from the passenger side tire area.
Any ideas?

Welcome aboard! Should you discover that the ticking noise is coming from the engine itself, you are not alone. Ticking on the 5.4 engine is common. Some say it's injectors, some say it's related to cam phase issues.

It may not effect driveability. But it will not go away. Have it checked out for "insurance" sake.

Search on "ticking", or "cam phase" and you'll see you are not the only one.

Here's one of many on this subject:

The Cam Phaser issue should be limited to 04-05. There was a lash adjuster issue in early 06.

While these engines are noisy, there is one issue that applies up through 07. Do you use aftermarket oil filters? If so, there is a Ford Special Service Message that describes the filter element failing and pieces getting lodged in your oil passages. If your noise is isolated to one side, this is a likely culprit.

Yikes! That's a new one to me...do you happen to know if Ford identified which aftermarket filters were causing this?

IIRC it just said aftermarket, no brand names mentioned. I posted the text in another thread, I'll see if I can find it. I found it through google in a scanned printout of some ford tech service report on an expedition.

I think they try to keep these Special Service Messages under wraps.

Special service messages
21049 1997-2010 multiple vehicle - 4.6l/5.4l - engine ticking and/or rattle noise
multiple vehicle lines with 4.6l or 5.4l engine may experience an engine ticking or rattle noise that sounds like a stuck tappet (hla). This
may be due to the deterioration of an aftermarket oil filter. Vehicles with this condition have low oil pressure at one cylinder head
only, while main pressures are normal. Dislodged material from the aftermarket oil filter blocks the cam cap oil passage, either at
cylinder #4 (right bank rear) or cylinder #5 (left bank front). For vct equipped engines, inspect the vct valve body and the oil passages
under the first cam cap. Damage to engines caused by aftermarket oil filters are not covered under warranty.
