Default 2007 5.4 possible engine noise

I've checked through the site but couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for though I'm sure its out there somewhere and I just missed it! I've got a 2007 F150 with the 5.4 3v and 182,xxx miles. I've noticed recently that when I'm coming to a stop, a ticking noise starts happening that's in sync with the engine RPM's, sounding like it almost wants to die then quits and the RPM's go back up to normal idle speed. It's only when I'm in drive, not really in reverse and if I'm in park and rev it up it never does it. I just need an idea of where to start. The truck runs great other than that and the ticking or anything is never present except for when coming to a stop. Thanks in advance for any help!

Could be several things from an exhaust manifold leak to timing components.. Both are very common in these year trucks.

It almost sounds more like parts catching than an exhaust noise but then again I've never dealt with this situation before so i could definitely be wrong! It's somewhat hard to tell if it's an exhaust manifold leak on mine just driving it because I've also got straight pipe duals from the cats back and that's all you really hear most of the time. I work at a Ford dealership while I'm going through automotive school (as a lube tech) but I could probably talk one of the line tech's into driving it on a Saturday afternoon when we're slow to see if they can pinpoint it. I'll update whatever I find out!
