Yes, I removed the seals and used my torx screwdriver and removed the solenoid. Just so you know, if you take them out, make sure that you use a one piece torx screwdriver because you do not want a torx bit falling off inside the engine. I had to kinda trim my screwdriver handle so that it would turn properly and not hit or get bound up on the solenoid when turning it. Bought it at Autozone, pretty sure it is a Torx 27 size with about a 6 inch long blade. While loosening up the torx bolt, pull on the solenoid so that it comes up as the bolt is loosened, the bolt is made not to come out of the solenoid bracket but it would suck if it did somehow. The seal is a pain to remove but very do-able, just take your time prying it out. I can get my gasket and solenoid out in about 5 minutes on passenger side, drivers side is right below the power steering reservoir, just take the bolts out that hold that in place and you can get to the solenoid no problem.

I have the 4.6l guys, apparently my motor doesn't have the VCTs. I didn't see them on the valve covers and a web search verifies that the 2-valve 4.6l does not have VCT.

I'm keeping my eyes out for a stock air box at local salvage yards.
