Default 2006 xlt, 5.4l cai question

I have heard that you can damage your motor if you do not load a performance tuner on your truck before you install the CAI, is there any truth too this because this is the first time I have heard this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Installing a CAI and a Non-CAI compatible tune on the 5.4 can lead to the engine leaning out.

I believe you are fine with just the CAI.

Thank you, I will just make sure that I get a tune that will work with the CAI after I install the CAI.

I would tune first if I were you, you'll see a lot bigger difference with the transmission tuned.

I had planned on getting the tuner last because I am going to install a leveling kit and bigger tires, I have already installed the exhaust and next was the CAI and then the leveling kit and tires and then the turner tuned for all of the equipment installed.

I am still holding out on a tune, but I have done a CAI SIDO exahust, and E-fans. I have not had any issues with the truck leaning out. In fact nothing but good really.

personally I think you are doing the right thing to wait, most every custom tune take into consideration what you have already done to your truck, and the person who makes the tune will get you the most performance they can with what you have.

now if you are going with a canned tune, it doesnt matter.
