Default 2006 STX 4.6 advice please

'06 stx 4.6 question. Battery and alternator checked everythings comes out good. No check engine light yet. when turning key seems like battery is dead, speedometer ticks. No attempt to turn over at all. Try agian and cranks up fine. Has been doing this for a week.Someone said maybe solenoid or whole starter. When it starts its instantly , or its dead.

x2 on connections and grounds. Did you have the battery and alternator checked on the car or off of it?

Both were checked while in the car. Also checked everything in fuse box.Started right up on 1st try 6 times today, and once it took 5 attempts. Cleaned Battery cables/battery terminol up real good the other day there was a little bit of blue on hot side.

Check the connections on your starter itself. Could be corroded. May need to check your starter wires to make sure they aren't corroded inside the rubber casing. Could be your starter solenoid on the starter too. If it doesn't start, tap it with a hammer (LIGHTLY) if it starts after that, then your problem is with your starter

Did you check continuity on the ground cable to make sure it doesn't have a break in it? From what you are describing, it really sounds like a ground issue. Did you try fabbing up a temp group wire to see if that made a difference? Did you check voltage at the starter?

Thanks, when I get home I'll take a look at the starter connections and go from there.
Also Is there a solenoid on the firewall and what is it for. A guy I work with was telling that was a similar problem on his 2004 Ford Explorer.
I thought talking about solenoid on starter at first, but he's saying it's on firewall.

Nope there should not be a solenoid on your fire wall. I believe you have a starter relay inside your engine compartment. But that should not be causing you any trouble. You should have 3 wires running to your starter. One from your battery, one that Sends signal to the starter for it to crank (that one is very small and is yellow with a green stripe. It has a weird looking connection in your engine compartment, to the left of the battery. Try cleaning that out. They are known to get crap inside of them and the connection there can get corroded too. The third should be the ground to the starter.

*CORRECTION* that connection I mentioned, is to the right of the battery.
