2006 Stock hitch installation question...
Picked up a used stock hitch today.
Looking at installing it.
Here is the hitch, before paint.
Here are the 3 holes on the bumper that match up to the 3 holes on the hitch:
Here is a shot of the strength plate they put on all trucks that come factory without a hitch:
So, factory plate out, hitch in? That sound about right?

Doing the same install. Its a simple job, just a pain because you gotta take the bumper off then put it back together with the hitch. How much did you get your hitch for?

If you search hard enough, there's some good buys out there. However, all the new ones are generics (no name brands) and the one I bought was not a perfect fit, but workable with a little extra effort. By not perfect, I mean a couple of the mounting ears did not align perfectly with the holes and got bent during final tightening, but so what? It's under the truck, painted well and strong as a bull. If memory serves me correctly, I paid $119.00 plus some shipping. I found it via several searches. But, the key to price is to search long and hard and do not jump on the first thing you see. Don't rush the buying process.
Also, one eBay seller has a trailer wiring adapter that is simply a plug that is inserted into existing wiring under the rear bumper. Easy as pie to do and requires no additional fuses, heavy duty flasher, wiring, soldering, taping, etc. The unit came with excellent instructions. You have to buy according to year and model. I do not remember what I paid, but the local dealers sell them for $36.00 - $60.00 plus tax.
