2006 Lariat 5.4L intermittent starting problem
#11
So far so good.
After installing the new 850 CCA battery and LED lights all around (hope to reduce the battery drain when starting) the truck has started every time even when 5 degrees out. Had to order a 'LED' blinker relay. LEDs on front caused rapid blink and when LEDs were added to rear blinker relay just buzzes.
It has only been a week so far. I won't consider it fixed for another 3 weeks with no failed starts.
Sure appreciate the input.

Interesting new symptom with changing the brake lights to LEDs. Other than the blinker relay not working the remote start would crank the engine over and start then shut off. Did this every time. So I made an appointment with Fusion Audio who had just installed the remote start and drove the 40 minutes there. On the highway I noticed that my cruise control would not turn on. Puzzling symptoms for changing to LEDs.
The technician discovered that the return wire from the brake switch had 1.4 volts on it (should be zero). The remote start uses that wire to see if someone steps on the brake which will stop the engine. He added a couple of diodes (.7V + .7V) as a temp fix until I get the brake switch replaced. Apparently the lower current of the LED or less inductance of the filament bulb allowed the faulty brake switch to cause an issue. Yep, the cruise control now works again. It must also watch the brake switch. I doubt if I would have figured that out. The new LED relay fixed the turn signal issue. And the best part...he refused to let me pay him anything.... and his stuff was working. Must be the season...

Started right up at minus 23. So not a cold weather issue.[/QUOTE]
With the new 850 CCA battery, I'd say that eliminated the issue of it not starting or even cranking. Glad it worked!
