Default I have a new noise. Sounds like a baby's rattle

It is only present when under load. When I coast it goes away (not immediately but it tapers off) It also goes away when I put it in 4x4. It does sound like it is speed sensitive but more load sensitive. You can hear it on the driver's side really loud but barely on the passemger side.

I have checked for rattling parts and such but can't find anything. It is really sounds like it coming from the tranny or transfer case area.

Any thoughts?

load sensitive sounds more like a wheel bearing issue.

It is your IWE hubs. Sounds like a baby rattle or rattlesnake as my wife says. I replaced mine and the vacuum lines to them. They still do it once in a while, especially right before the transmission kicks down.

Default And we have the winner!

Unplugged the solenoid and the noise is gone. Now to fix and find the recall notice for the rain shield

Default Integrated wheel end.

It sits at the end of axle shaft. Look behind the spindle casting at 12 o'clock and you'll see the vacuum and vent connection for it. It looks like mine may be just fouling in the vacuum lines although it looks like I blew up my vacuum accumulator while trying to blow the lines out. The issue can also be the solenoid. My Haynes manual doesn't mention them in the index but does show them in the section for removing the axles. The fix is no harder than replacing the axles.

Look up ford f150 IWE on google. There is a pretty good write up on another forum.

Make sure that when the solenoid was acting up, that your hubs didn't chew themselves to bits. That happened to me and the hubs were completely shot, just little nubs.
