2006 fuel filter - which size or either?
Hey, quick question...
for my 2006 KR F150, I bought a new fuel filter today, Motorcraft FG-986-B as specified in my owners manual. Got under the truck to remove the old one (after releasing pressure) and found that filter number FG-1083 is currently installed. I figured maybe it was just a superceded number, but the inlet and outlet size is different than the filter I bought (3/8" vs. 5/16").
The truck was running fine with the current filter, no leaks, etc., so I am wondering if I should replace with the same even though it is not the part specified in my manual. Or will either work? The differing inlet/outlet size has me a bit spooked.
thanks for your help.

You need to get the matching size to what came off. I'm not 100% sure why there are different line sizes, but don't try to make it fit. I ran into that problem a little while ago actually. Parts store gave me the wrong diameter. Left me kind of confused as well

Cool info rivera, I was thinking it had something to do with flex fuel variants.

Changed my fuel filter today. As you can see by the black fuel that leaked out it was in desperate need. Here's some info to help:
I have a 5.4L 2006 produced in 2006 according to the VIN. My truck used the filter beginning with 9. Other people have posted otherwise, so my best recommendation is to just take it out and see what you have if you have a 2006. If you change the filter when the engine is cold and just open the tank, that is all that is needed to de-pressurize the system. Also, if you break the clip that connects to the end towards the gas tank it isn't the end of the world. I bought my truck used and it was already broken. A zip tie was holding it sealed and after the change a zip tie still works. Hope this info helps. Go change that thing if you've been putting it off. It's easy pizzy.
