Default 2006 F150 XLT V8 5.4L Triton Engine sputter at high speeds

I have read similar issues to this around, but haven't found the exact match to what my truck is doing.

When I most notice this issue is when I am driving at highway speeds, then slow down slightly for slower traffic and try to speed back up again, the engine sputters. It sounds like either the transmission slipping, or a misfiring in the engine. I am not getting any check engine light. This also seems to be worse when O/D is on, if I take it off it seems to run fairly smooth.

Thanks in advance!

It has 115k miles on it, and I don't know when it had the last tune up. I just recently acquired the vehicle.

Suggest you read the spark plug thread for the 04-07 5.4 3V

Definitely read the spark plug thread (more than likely your issue) and get the extractor tool on order as most people break at least one. I broke one all the way at the back on the passenger side behind the computer the first time I did mine. The second time (when I did my timing components) nothing broke but they had considerably less miles on them.

What interval was your second change at? I did my first change at 87,000 miles. Did everything by the book and broke three (including the one under the steering wheel). I'm almost at 95,000 miles now and was thinking about changing the plugs again at 125,000. Any thoughts on this?

Sounds almost like my truck verbatim.

I got my truck a few months ago at 130k miles on the clock. Previous owner had plugs changed at 88k by Ford in 2012. 2 Broken Plugs (4 & 8 I feel bad for the tech lol), they replaced them with the SP-515 plugs.

I changed my plugs a couple of weeks ago since it's been 50k miles/3 years and I didn't break any plugs. I just warmed the engine up, broke the plugs loose with 1/8th-1/4th of a turn on the plugs, then sprayed some carb cleaner down in the wells and let it soak overnight. Came out the next morning and got them all out without any issues.

So it seems as long as you used the SP-515 plugs/soak in carb cleaner, you shouldn't have any issues. I also put Anti-Seize on my threads/electrode sleeves and it looks like the Ford Tech did the same thing with the previous change as there was a ton of build-up in the threads. I imagine where crap got in there when I broke the plug loose and mixed with the anti-seize.
