2006 F150 5.4 misfire HELP!!
#11
Well being I changed the plug when I had the #4 misfire code, I didn't change the plug on #5, since it's new, but I did clean it including the excess anti sieze from the sleeve area. The electrode didn't look to have any antisieze on it but I cleaned it anyway and blew it out. It runs like a champ and the code cleared for the time being. I am getting to wander if I didn't do the plug install properly such as too much or not the right anti-sieze, plugs not tight enough etc.

I know this has been rehashed over and over but there are so many suggested fixes on this issue, so I will get as specific as I can to hopefully avoid getting into throwing a lot of parts and money into this.
-I had a severe engine hesitation, jerking sensation at a certain speed RPM especially when in over drive. No engine service light came in at all, so no codes to detect.
-I changed the plugs out with motorcraft plugs and the problem went away.
-Ok, now after that I put in the chevron techron fuel cleaner with my next fill up and it ran great.
- The next time I filled up with gas I started having misfire issues, this was not the same problem I had before I installed the new plugs, a #4 misfire code was detected.
- After troubleshooting I installed a new plug in #4 and the code went away and ran fine until my next tank fill and then immediately after I filled up the misfire came back again except this time it was #5 code.
I want to stress that both times it happened it was immediately after I filled up with gas. After reading dozens of potential fixes for a misfire I am focusing on fuel evap issue, fuel pressure sensor or cat issue. Looking for answers.
Thank you

Use silicone grease the correct way on boots . Use Nichol antisieze on plug shaft per ford tsb .
There is a theory that you should try to get the carbon out from around spark tip in cylinder as it could affect the heat range of the plug . I am going to do this on next sparkplug change . I do torque my sparkplugs when installing them. also vacuum out the hole real good before you take sparkplugs out .
I changed out all injectors at 130k , changed cam phasor solenoids also.
Changed out bad throttle body for new upgraded model number I had the bad numbered throttle body issue .
This 5.4 l engine is a pain.

Do you know for sure what cylinder it is, and is it at idle? Easiest way to figure out which cylinder isn't firing is to disconnect the fuel injectors one at a time until you find the one that doesn't make a difference. Then swap things one at a time (coil, plug) with a known good cylinder, checking again after each to see if the problem followed. Don't forget about the fuel injector, if it doesn't follow the plug ir coil it might be that.

- This problem of misfires did not happen until after I changed plugs a month ago and I used MC plugs.
- I have had 3 misfire codes come in since the problem first arose. #4,#5 and #4 again.
- Each time I have pulled the coil/boot and the plug for that cylinder to make sure the plug and boot are clean and dry and every time the issue goes away for a few days before it comes back again.
- The latest info I have found on this is the carbon build up in the plug sleeve hole that can cause issues with performance of the plug. So after #4 came in again yesterday I pulled the boot and plug and cleaned the sleeve hole area the best I could and reinstalled the coil and plug and the problem and code are gone once again and running great.
- I have inspected and troubleshot the coil/boots and don't think that is a problem at this point.

Swap the injector...

Well after a few weeks the misfire is back again on #4. It all comes down to this, this issue did not start until after I changed out the spark plugs and I used Motorcraft plugs.

To many factors and to many unknowns to diagnose online.
Did you use dielectric grease on boots when you reinstalled them?
Did you try swapping the coil assembly?
Did you try swapping the injector?
Did you try swapping plugs?
Do the three above one at a time to narrow things down.
How did the plug look when you took it out? (do you know how to read plugs?)
What is the specific code you are getting? Any other symptoms?
Do you know someone with a real code reader (not just "P" codes but can pull Ford codes and read live data)? That can narrow things down pretty fast.
Are you certain your instal went correctly? There should be no antiseize to clean up upon removal as you noted. Could you have contaminated the plug?

Change the coil pack on #4
These coils are intermittent when they go bad . Buy a granteed coil not those cheap ones . I got mine at auto zone . I have a box of those ebay ones I need to throw away .
Mine drove me crazy for a long time and I changed all the injectors before I realized the coil is just not good or bad, they go intermittent which can throw your testing way off .
