Two things.

Firstly, congrats on having 235k miles! That's awesome! You never see original owners keeping vehicles that long. I just hope that mine will last another 100k miles to get to where you're at.

Second, this isn't going to solve any of your issues directly, but will help you diagnose everything better. Get a bluetooth OBDII adapter on eBay, they go for less than $10. Then download the Torque Pro app, which is $5. It'll help you monitor everything you need to and help you eliminate things when your trying to narrow down your issues. It's a tool that is worth more than 10x what you pay for it.

Do you know if you get that $10 tool and the $5 software will it be able to take advantage of the module on the fuel rail and test what the pressure is? or do you need to order one of those $400 kits to do that?

Yes - its the Fuel Rail Pressure PID, I've been using it for the last week because I had a P0172 code that I was trying to nail down and it helped me narrow it to my injectors. My fuel rail pressure is usually around 40 psi, but varies from mid 30's to mid 40's.

There's more things on it to monitor than you'll know what to do with, takes some learning to figure out what to monitor, but it's an awesome tool.

Torque Pro has been one of my best investments for my last 4 vehicles! Just make sure you get a decent OBD adapter. Some wont read all the information that your truck is capable of sending. I have used this one for a long time and it reads all the sensors any of my vehicles have ever had.

Between that and the $5 Torque app its by far the best $25 I've ever spent for my vehicles.

just pulled the trigger to soon, already placed an order for a Bluetooth reader, but not that one. I guess if it doesn't work I will order the one you are suggesting and try again.

I am on an iPhone and when I search for Torque pro, it doesn't come up, but ODB2 Fushion does and it has really good reviews, so I am going to download that app, and it says the ODB2 reader I ordered is on their list of devices.

Going to just leave the truck parked in the driveway until the reader shows up, then get back at it. Will post a reply once I have more information.

Thanks for all the replies so far in this thread.

Didn't read everything but what about the fuel relay switch. When you turn the key do you hear the fuel relay click?

My 1994 ford ranger 2.3 had similar issues to what you described, and after messing around trying to figure it out, it ended being a $5 fix. I know those two trucks are completely different...

But check the relay fuses.

Just a quick update on this as I seem to have the problem solved now. I got the ODBII wi-fi device and downloaded the ODB Fusion software to my iPhone and ran through some tests on that. One thing I noticed was even when the engine was running I could not pickup a PSI reading on the fuel rail sensor module.

Went to the Auto parts store and picked up a new module for the fuel rail, and also picked up a new Crankshaft positioning sensor as that was suggested in an earlier post. Bolted them both on and now it runs fine and starts right up even after shutting it off for 5 - 20 minutes after driving it.

I am now getting a PSI reading on the fuel after replacing that module on the fuel rail. I also noticed that when I went to replace the crankshaft positioning sensor that the connector (wires) was barely on there. So not sure if the sensor was bad or just a loose connector, but I replaced it anyways and just made sure the connection was tight on the new sensor.

Truck runs fine and now and has no problems starting back up when hot.

Thanks for the suggestions and help on this one.
