You're lucky anytime my Chevy went in, it usually came out with something else wrong. A scratch, broken mirror or like when they sprayed wd-40 all over my pass window cause it was stuttering and let it drip and discolor the door panel.

From what it sounds like the cable was frayed, letting moisture get into where the actual steel cable was and causing it to corrode. This is my first automatic tranmission since a 93 ranger I owned about 5 years ago, and it was a column shift. I noticed when I test drove the truck it that the shifter didn't have a real nice feel to it. As in you pull it to the letter or number and that's what drive it was in, it didnt pop into that gear and sit there.

Now with the new cable it seems to move smoothly and engagement is instantly obvious.

Oh, well thanks for the heads up. Hope to god this isnt the case with mine. If so the dealership will be picking up that tab minus a $100 deductible. I'd better abuse the **** out of it for the next 2 weeks making sure the gremlins show their face...lol

Yep, use that warranty up. Ford picked up $2700 for that trans. After re-reading your post, yours was a little different. Mine decided that it wouldn't come out of drive. Then after a while of moving the shifter back and forth and finally shoving it into reverse i got it into park. After that bull**** is when the trans went. Planetary gears all stripped off and chewed up.
