I have been looking to find this answer everywere before i decide to order a new grille for my truck. I currently have the stock Fx4 grille with bars and i would like to swap it out to a honeycomb grill. So my question is if I buy an insert off of ebay can i just swap the parts out or do i have to buy the entire 2-part grille (and if i do will that fit?)

You can just swap the grille insert using your current painted trim ring.

I heard from a couple random people that the style changed between 04-08 the slightest bit.
I've now swapped out 4 inserts and have never had an issue with fitment. I have no idea what 3 of those were from and the fourth was from my 06.

Be wary though, you're more than likely going to break a few tabs on the back. I broke 3 and it has no effect on my grille. Still holds together perfectly fine. I took my time and spent almost two hours working at the clips. I'd get half of them apart then they'd start clipping back together. It's a real PITA.

You can heat the tabs up a bit so they're a little flexible though. I didn't try it but friends recommended I do that next time.
